Entrelac Pullover Knitting Pattern
Knit a striking textured pullover using the entrelac technique and Papatya Batik 554-18. The interlocking knitted blocks create a woven effect, while the colour changes in the yarn highlight the structure of the design.
Instructions
Entrelac Block
Begin the basic entrelac block with 9 stitches. Work the block in stocking stitch, turning the work as required to create the characteristic rectangular shape.
Keep the number of stitches consistent for each block so that the entrelac pattern remains even.
To increase the overall size of the garment, additional entrelac blocks can be added while maintaining the same construction and direction of the pattern.
Sleeves
Cast on 54 stitches for each sleeve.
Work the cuff in a 2 purl, 2 knit rib.
Once the rib section is complete, change to the main entrelac construction and work the sleeve using the same interlocking block technique.
Continue until the sleeve reaches the required length. Leave the live stitches on the needle ready for joining to the body.
Body
Cast on 164 stitches using circular needles.
Work the lower band in a 2 purl, 2 knit rib.
After completing the ribbing, begin the entrelac section around the body.
Continue working the entrelac blocks until the body reaches the required length.
Joining the Body and Sleeves
Position the sleeves and body so that the entrelac blocks continue in the same direction around the garment.
Join the sleeve stitches to the body and continue working the upper section in one piece.
Pay particular attention to the direction of the entrelac blocks when joining the sections so that the woven effect remains continuous across the shoulders.
Shoulders and Neckline
Continue working towards the shoulders, decreasing progressively through the upper entrelac blocks to shape the neckline.
Finish the neckline with a 2 purl, 2 knit rib, working evenly around the neck opening.
Finishing
Sew any remaining open sections at the sleeve cuffs and weave in all yarn ends securely.
Gently block the finished pullover to even out the entrelac blocks and help the garment settle into its final shape.
Back View
The entrelac construction continues across the back, creating the same interlocking woven effect as the front.
